Dear Me: Advice To My Younger Self!

09/09/2015

Happy Thursday Everyone…

On July 30th marked exactly my 28 years on planet earth. Now that i`m slowly but surely growing older, i reflect more deeply about my actions and life in general. There are times that i wish i could go back and redo somethings in the past, or even know certain things that i didn`t know back then that i now know. One thing that i will never forget is where i came from. The many twists and turns that i experienced when i was young played a major role in my life and i believe i wouldn`t be where i am right now without them! I realize how much more deeply i am trusting God than i ever did when i was young. I believe i have come to a good place and i hope to keep going because i am enjoying this journey more than ever.

Even so, i often find myself wishing i could tell my younger self some more things about how life really works and about what`s real and true. In hopes that it might be helpful to you on your own journey, here are five things i wish i could tell my younger self:

Advice to my younger self_05

Have Faith in everything & Don`t give up on yourself

If you have been consistent with my posts, then you probably know that i experienced a lot of hardships in life, mostly when i was young. After i cleared high school, that`s when it really hit me how hard life was! If you have struggled financially at one point in your life then you have a clue of what i`m talking about. Seeing all my friends go to Uni and College wasn`t easy, trust me! And you know the situation is serious when you see your mother struggling to get a normal meal to put on the table:( Yes.. really! You will thank God later that you went through all these. You wouldn`t be this determined, this bold if not for those instances in life that had you question your existence and purpose in life, that had you cry yourself to sleep, that had you second guess if there is really a God… And that`s when your FAITH is put to test! Have Faith in every situation you are going through and pray as much as you can. Above all never give up! God is real and i know my life is a testimony of this.

Advice to my younger self_01Stay Focused

Learn to sorround yourself with people that inspire you. There are people in life who will try and drag you down with them because they don`t want to see you progressing in life. Avoid people with closed minds, who tend to be negative. One thing you need to have in mind is that positivity and motivation is contagious. Sorround yourself with positivity and you will be grateful later because of this choice you made. But the most important thing is having your goals straight and working on them with an intention of making them happen. So work hard and thrive to achieve your dreams…

Advice to my younger self_07

Don`t let Failure & Fear get you down

I can`t begin to count the number of times i have failed in my achievements! As a matter of fact this dissapointments that i experienced turned into fear and this handicaped me from moving forward. Sad but very true!  I actually made a post on how i face my fear (here). A big lesson learnt is that we should work through our fears, no matter  how hard that sounds. Use all your failures to your advantage and learn from them. Challenge yourself to even come out more successful. Fear has had to be one of the reasons why i procrastinate so much. But i refuse to allow myself to be restricted because i`m afraid to try. I would rather fail than not try at all! Don`t let anyone ever tell you your dreams are out of reach. Only YOU know your only potential.

Advice to my younger self_08

Your mistakes don`t have to define you

Just allow them to be part of the journey. Keep in mind that no one is perfect! We are all human. Just because you made a mistake once, twice or even a third time doesn`t mean you should be afraid to be the first. Do not be afraid to move mountains. Do not downplay your dreams and aspirations just beacause someone hasn`t done it yet. Do not limit yourself to what society thinks is possible and achievable. Release your inhibitions, learn from your mistakes and live so that someday you won`t have to wish you could tell your younger self anything 🙂

Advice to my younger self_06

Don`t change yourself so that people will like you

It`s impossible to get everyone to like you. Some people will, some people won`t.  The truth is that life is way too short to worry what other people think about you. Sometimes the people you are trying to fit in with and impress aren`t really worth your time. I know there is a drastic change in the  society we live in right now and there is this pressure that we must be better and do better. Don`t waste your time trying to be someone you`re not. You are good enough. You don`t have to be more. You are made beautifully in the image of God. Always have that in mind. Just learn to embrace the flaws so you can focus on your best features. And one more thing, It`s more than ok to sometimes take a step back to evaluate your life and count your blessings!

What are some of the things you will tell your younger self?? Don`t hesitate to share your thoughts with me..

Hope you enjoyed this post just as much as i did writing it!

Hugs & Kisses

Milly 🙂

Love love the dress Milly. You look beautiful and I agree many are the times i found myself feeling like this is it and I just cant take it any more but as you said you cant get everyone to love you and people are bound to have their own opinion that’s human nature and the Key is accepting who you are and the fact that you are good enough. #motivational:-*

The fact that EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER, is the best way most of us learn a lot of things in life that school will never be able to offer us.. I think its okay to make mistakes in life and learn from them but don’t repeat the same mistakes! The more we add years to our lives the more we look back and be like ” what was I thinking back then?”
And sure time is like allowing river u never touch the same water twice , I guess everyone wish they could have had more time to share with people that no longer exist in our lives and so so much more . Its always some kind of nostalgic feeling but at the end lessons are learnt and I reconsider my thoughts before acting!

My birthday just passed (the 8th) and I’ve been reflecting on things more and more. You think about the past a lot but it’s important to learn from what happened and use it to build a better future. I’m 26 now and there is quite a bit I wish I knew before but I am who I am because of what has happened in my life and I’m just excited to see what is next.
